If you raise grass-fed beef, pastured eggs, pork, or honey in Texas and you are tired of taking orders in Facebook Messenger, you have probably been pointed at two names: GrazeCart and Barn2Door.
They are real products. Plenty of Texas farms run on them. You can see it in the footer: “Farm website & online store provided by GrazeCart.”
They are also monthly platforms. You rent the store. You keep paying as long as you want the store to exist.
Pasture Cart is a different animal. We are a Texas shop (San Antonio area). We build you a custom site, hand you the keys in about a week, and charge $499 once. You own the code, the domain, and the customer list. We do not take a cut of your sales. Stripe takes their normal card fee when somebody actually buys something.
There is one monthly number on our site, and you should hear it from us before a competitor points it out: an optional Care Plan at $59.99/month if you want us to keep doing updates, backups, and small edits. You can skip it. You can cancel it. The site keeps running either way.
So “which is cheaper?” depends on two honest questions:
- Do you need a full farm operating system (sell-by-weight engine, delivery zones, packing tablet, in-person POS), or do you need a clean website that takes orders and tells your story?
- Are you going to pay us $59.99/month to babysit the site, or not?
The rest of this piece is just the public numbers, a few years of napkin math, and who each option is actually for.
What you are actually buying
These are not three flavors of the same ice cream.
| Pasture Cart | GrazeCart | Barn2Door | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A custom website built for your ranch. You own it. | Farm e-commerce + POS software. You rent it. | Farm e-commerce + POS + merchant account. You rent it. |
| Who does the work | We build it. You ranch. | You (or a hired web person) set it up in their builder. They say onboarding is included. | They set the store up. You pay a setup fee. |
| If the company vanished tomorrow | Site stays up. Another developer can take the Next.js / Stripe / Vercel stack. | Store lives on their platform. You would be moving. | Barn2Door’s own FAQ says once the account is closed you lose the hosted website, order history, and customer details. You keep the URL. |
| Built around | Story, catalog, Stripe checkout, subscriptions, mobile. | Sell-by-weight, delivery zones, shipping labels, inventory. | Online + in-person POS, subscriptions, sell-by-weight, routes on higher tiers. |
If you run 12 delivery routes, a market booth with a handheld, and a packing line, GrazeCart and Barn2Door exist for that. If you sell halves and quarters, a few boxes, eggs, and honey, and you want a site that looks like your ranch — not a rented storefront — that is the job we take.
Neither answer is immoral. Paying for a tractor you need is fine. Paying a monthly lease on a tractor you do not need is how a small outfit gets tired.

The sticker prices
| Pasture Cart | GrazeCart | Barn2Door | |
|---|---|---|---|
| To get started | $499 one-time for the full site | $89/month Starter, shown as “$89/mo / Annually.” Setup advertised as included. | $119/month Entrepreneur billed annually, plus a one-time $399 set-up fee |
| Next tier | Optional Care Plan $59.99/month (cancel anytime; site stays) | Growth: not published. Page shows $... / Annually and a “Talk with an expert” button. Same for Premium. | Business $159/mo billed annually + $499 setup. Scale $299/mo billed annually + $599 setup. |
| Our cut of your sales | $0. We do not take a transaction fee. | Platform fee: not published. | $0 commission on the pricing page. Setup fee is separate. Pricing page also mentions Merchant Support Fees that “decline” with volume, without publishing a percentage. |
| Card processing | Stripe’s public US rate: 2.9% + 30¢ per successful online card charge. We never touch the money. | Not published on the pricing page or the payments page. | 2.9% + $0.30, listed as fixed on every tier. |
| Free trial | Not a software trial. You talk to us, we build, you launch. | Not published on the pricing page. | None advertised. Signup runs through a demo. Their FAQ says monthly or annual, no long-term “feet to the fire” contract. |
| POS hardware | Not a POS product. | Express POS sits on Growth (unpriced). Barn2Door’s 2025 comparison post claims GrazeCart’s terminal starts at $249 — that is their claim, not a number we found on GrazeCart’s pricing page. | $59/device, reimbursed if you process $1,000 on it in 6 months. |
| Extra meters on the bill | Domain is yours, usually about $15/year to the registrar. Hosting is on Vercel as part of the build. | Starter is capped at 3 delivery zones. Subscriptions, coupons, gift cards, unlimited zones, and Express POS are on Growth (unpriced). | Optional Marketing Toolkit $39/month. Academy $99/class. Custom farm logo $499. |

- Stripe standard US online cards: stripe.com/pricing — 2.9% + 30¢
- Barn2Door’s own comparison article (not their pricing page) lists Merchant Support at 1–3% of gross volume and older GrazeCart subscription numbers. We are not treating that 1–3% as a verified pricing-page figure: A 2025 Comparison of Barn2Door and Grazecart
Barn2Door’s annual toggle advertises 17% / 20% / 21% savings versus monthly. They do not print the monthly dollar amounts in the page we fetched. So: annual is cheaper; monthly exists and costs more; we will not invent $143 or $199.
GrazeCart Growth and Premium are dots. Anyone who quotes you “GrazeCart is $109” or “$199” from an old blog is not reading the 2026 pricing page. We are not going to do that.
Napkin math for a Texas ranch
Assume you stay on each company’s entry offer. Assume you do not buy Barn2Door’s marketing toolkit or logo. Assume GrazeCart Starter is enough — which it is not, if you need subscriptions. GrazeCart puts subscriptions on Growth, and Growth has no public price. That caveat matters for beef-box outfits.
Card fees are in a separate column because every honest checkout pays a processor. Pasture Cart uses Stripe at 2.9% + 30¢. Barn2Door publishes the same 2.9% + $0.30. GrazeCart’s rate is not published, so we will not pretend we know it.
Software cost only (no card fees)
| Year 1 | Year 2 | Years 1–3 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pasture Cart, no Care Plan | $499 | $0* | $499 |
| Pasture Cart + Care Plan ($59.99 × 12 = $719.88/yr) | $499 + $719.88 = $1,218.88 | $719.88 | $2,658.64 |
| GrazeCart Starter ($89 × 12) | $1,068 | $1,068 | $3,204 |
| Barn2Door Entrepreneur ($119 × 12 = $1,428 + $399 setup) | $1,827 | $1,428 | $4,683 |
Year 2 on Pasture Cart without the Care Plan is $0 to us. You still pay your domain registrar (~$15) and Stripe when you make a sale. If Vercel or DNS ever needed a paid tweak, that would be on you or a one-off invoice — we are not going to invent a hosting line item that is not on our site.
Same table, said in English
- If you skip the Care Plan, Pasture Cart is the cheap one on software, year one and every year after. $499 versus $1,068 versus $1,827.
- If you take the Care Plan, year one is $1,218.88. That is about $151 more than GrazeCart Starter’s $1,068, and about $608 less than Barn2Door Entrepreneur’s $1,827.
- By year three, even with the Care Plan the whole time ($2,658.64), you are still under GrazeCart Starter ($3,204) and well under Barn2Door ($4,683).
- The Care Plan is optional. A lot of ranchers will pay $499, learn the two or three edits they need, and never send us another sixty bucks. That is allowed. That is the point.
What about card fees?
On a $24,000 year of card sales (a round number for illustration — not a Pasture Cart traffic stat, we do not have Search Console numbers to wave around):
- Stripe or Barn2Door’s published 2.9% + 30¢ is in the neighborhood of $700–$850 depending on how many charges you run, not one lump. Twenty-four $1,000 invoices cost less in nickels than two hundred $120 egg/honey orders, because of the 30¢. We are not going to fake a precise penny.
- GrazeCart: not published. Could be similar. Could be different. Ask them on the call they require for Growth anyway.
Card fees are not “Pasture Cart’s fee.” They are the bank. Anyone who hides that is selling you a story.
If you sell $24,000 and you are on Barn2Door Entrepreneur, software + published processing is roughly $1,827 + ~$800. GrazeCart Starter is $1,068 + unknown processing. Pasture Cart with no Care Plan is $499 + Stripe. Pasture Cart with Care Plan is $1,218.88 + Stripe.
Move the sales number up or down; the software gap does not care. That is the whole argument.
The part the price table does not say
GrazeCart Starter is not “the farm store.” Their own comparison on the pricing page puts subscriptions, Express POS, coupons, gift cards, and unlimited delivery zones on Growth, which has no public price. If you sell a monthly beef box — Holy Cow Beef style, Buck Creek style — Starter may not be the plan you actually need. Then you are in a sales conversation with no number on the wall.
Barn2Door includes subscriptions and POS at Entrepreneur. That is a real advantage at $119/mo. You also pay $399 to walk in the door, and you are on their merchant account. Their FAQ is blunt: cancel, and the hosted website and customer data access go with the account. Download first.
Pasture Cart includes Stripe subscriptions on the $499 site. Recurring beef boxes and CSA-style charges are in the build, not a higher tier. We do not include a sell-by-weight scale that actualizes a roast after it hits the counter. We do not include a handheld POS or a packing-manager tablet. If that is your bottleneck, say so on the phone and we will tell you to look at GrazeCart or Barn2Door instead of taking your $499.
Time to live. We say about a week. GrazeCart’s marketing talks about onboarding with their success team (included, they say). Barn2Door’s setup fee “covers the assets, time and support” to line the platform up with your harvest schedule. If you want a store with 40 delivery rules, you should expect more than a week on any platform. If you want a site that takes a $400 half-cow deposit by Friday, a week is the right unit.
A Texas-shaped example (not a case study)
Say you are in Central Texas. You sell a few halves a month, some ground, a dozen or two of eggs at a Saturday market, maybe honey in the fall. Orders currently live in texts. You have a Facebook page your cousin built in 2019.
You do not need four delivery zones and a packing tablet. You need:
- A page that looks like your place, not a template farm in Vermont
- Half / quarter / box with a deposit
- Card payment that lands in your Stripe account
- A story page so a stranger in Austin believes the cattle are yours
- A phone number a real person answers
That is the $499 site. Optional Care Plan if you do not want to touch photos when the spring calves hit the ground.
If you are already running a GrazeCart store with three paid delivery routes and a market POS, we are not going to talk you off a tool that is paying for itself. We are the cheaper path for the ranch that does not need the OS yet — and the ranch that does not want to still be paying $89 or $119 in 2029 for a storefront they could have owned.
Who should pick what
Pick Barn2Door if you want one vendor for website + POS + subscriptions + (on higher tiers) routing and tax tools, you are fine renting, and $399 + $119/mo is a rounding error next to your meat volume. Read their pricing page, including the setup fee, before the demo.
Pick GrazeCart if catch-weight / sell-by-weight is the whole job — you portion after the saw, you pre-auth and charge the real pounds, you live in delivery zones. Start with Starter at $89/mo only if three zones is enough and you do not need subscriptions. If you do, ask them what Growth costs. Make them put it in writing. We cannot, because they have not.
Pick Pasture Cart if you want a Texas-built site that is yours in about a week, you do not want a required platform subscription, and you are willing to use Stripe like every other small business. Take the Care Plan if you want us in the loop. Skip it if you do not.
Short answers to the questions we get on the phone
“The old flyer said no monthly fees.” The site is $499 once. There is no required Pasture Cart subscription. The Care Plan is $59.99/month and optional. Stripe still charges 2.9% + 30¢ when a card is charged. That is the true sentence.
“Do you take a cut?” No.
“Can I keep my domain?” Yes. If you do not have one, you will spend something like $15 a year at a registrar. We help you point it.
“What if I already talked to GrazeCart / Barn2Door?” Good. Use this table on that call. Ask GrazeCart for a processing rate and a Growth quote. Ask Barn2Door what Merchant Support will be on your volume, since the pricing page names the fee and does not price it.
“Will my site disappear if Pasture Cart does?” No. You own the code, the domain, and the list. We build on ordinary tools. That is on our FAQ because it is the question I would ask.
